A poem
BURMA
(To Aung San Suu Kyi)
Beyond the night,
violence and drugs;
beyond despair,
selfishness and exploitation;
beyond drought,
famine and upheaval;
beyond floods,
earthquake and wars;
beyond prejudice,
race and religion…
there rises a tower of light
asking for bread and justice,
tolerance and peace,
for a humanity
confronting loneliness.
